Please read this information carefully before deciding to take part in this research. If you are happy to participate you will be asked to sign a consent form.

What is the research about?

I am a 3rd year BSc Psychology student studying at the University of Southampton. I am researching factors that are associated with risky sexual behaviour. A better understanding of factors that increase risky sexual behaviour might help develop education programmes that aim to inform the public and reduce risk.

Why have I been chosen?

This study is open to anyone between the ages of 18-25 years.

What will happen to me if I take part?

You will be asked to complete a series of short questionnaires. These will ask about alcohol consumption and behaviour, your relationship with your parents and your personal sexual behaviours. This should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete. Please take your time to complete the questions and take as long as you so wish to answer. You will be asked to read a debrief statement at the end of the study.

Are there any benefits in my taking part?

As a participant of this study, you will be contributing to our understanding of the factors that predict risky sexual behaviour. There may be no direct benefit to you, however if you are a student of the University of Southampton, you shall be awarded 2 research credits for taking part.

Are there any risks involved?

There are no direct risks involved in taking part in this study. Some parts of the survey may however indirectly touch on personal or sensitive issues. Please remember that you have the right to withdraw at any time.

Will my participation be confidential?

All data is kept confidential and the information provided is anonymous. Only the researcher shall have access to the information and it will be kept on a password-protected online programme.

What happens if I change my mind?

You have the right to withdraw at any occasion by closing the window and your results shall not be used as your participation is on a completely voluntary basis. If you do decide to take part, your information shall be used anonymously and shall only be used for the reason of this research and no other.
