What is the research about?

This research is being undertaken as part of an undergraduate BSc Psychology degree. I am a third year student and I am very interested in perceived female beauty and sexual attractiveness.

This research aims to further explore the role of various factors that may influence formation of male judgments whilst rating the extent of female attractiveness.

Why have I been asked to participate?

You have been asked to participate in order to build a representational sample of the heterosexual male population.

What will happen to me if I take part?

Participants will be asked to fill in a short social media use questionnaire and rate 75 female face images.

Questionnaire should take around 10 minutes to complete and attractiveness ratings should take additional 25 minutes.

Are there any benefits in my taking part?

By taking part in this study you will be contributing to current knowledge on formation of human sexual judgments and also may contribute with unique individual insights that are much appreciated.

Upon completion of this online study, undergraduate students will be also awarded with 5 research credits.

Are there any risks involved?

We do not anticipate any risks associated with this study.

Will my participation be confidential?

Participation will be anonymised and confidential. The data will be anonymised by allocating an alphanumerical code that does not contain any identifying information to

each participant’s data set. All data will be stored on a secure, password-protected drive.

What should I do if I want to take part?

If you want to participate in this study, please read Participant Information Sheet carefully, please make sure that you are eligible and consent before you proceed.

What happens if I change my mind?

You have the right to withdraw at any time without your rights being affected. If you change your mind while completing the questionnaire, simply close the window and your information

will not be saved. If you change your mind after completing the questionnaire, you will be emailed a unique participant number. In the event that you want to withdraw from the study simply

email the researcher at explaining that you would like to withdraw, provide your unique participant number this will allow your data to be identified and deleted.

What will happen to the results of the research?

The results of this study will be anonymised and made confidential. These will be then included in my dissertation project.
