Student Survey - Is student influx impacting community cohesion in Portsmouth?

I am a Geography student at the University of Southampton. I am kindly requesting your participation in a study regarding perceived levels of community cohesion in the city of Portsmouth, and whether this is influenced by the student population in the city. If you are completing the ‘Student’ questionnaire, you must be currently enrolled at the University of Portsmouth. You will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire, which will last no more than 10 minutes. Very little personal information will be collected, such as gender, ethnicity or age group. This information will not identify you in any way, and will not be released or viewed by anyone other than myself as the researcher. A small number of responsible professionals at the University of Southampton may be given access to the data to ensure the study is conducted professionally and correctly. They all have a duty of confidentiality.

Any information you give will be kept completely confidential and in no case will responses from individual participants be identified. Rather, all data will be pooled and published in aggregate form only. You should be aware, however, that the survey is not being run from a 'secure' https server of the kind typically used to handle credit card transactions, so there is a small possibility that responses could be viewed by unauthorised third parties (e.g., computer hackers). However, the data would appear only as a string of numbers, so your responses will remain anonymous.

As with any piece of research it is important to consider whether there are any risks to participating in the study. The study involves minimal risk to you as the participant (i.e., the level of risk encountered in daily life). There may be no direct benefit to you other than the sense of helping the public at large and contributing to knowledge.

You will need to indicate that you have understood this information before you can continue. You must also be aged over 18 to participate. By ticking the box at the bottom of this page and clicking ‘Continue’, you are indicating that you are aged over 18, and you are consenting to participate in this survey. You can withdraw your consent by stopping at any stage during the completion of the survey, before you reach the end. However, after clicking ‘Submit’ at the completion of the survey, consent cannot be withdrawn and the information you provided will be used for the purposes of the study only.

Visitors to this web site are welcome to complete the study, although you will receive no credit or monetary compensation. Participation is voluntary and refusal to take part in the study does not affect your legal rights.

If you have further questions about this study, please contact me in the first instance at: al2e16@soton.ac.uk, and I will do my best to help you.

If you have further questions about your rights or in the unlikely event that you may have a complaint or concern about the study, please contact the RIG Manager, RIG Team at the University of Southampton, Southampton, SO17 1BJ. (Phone: 02380 595058, Email: rgoinfo@soton.ac.uk)

Clicking start will also indicate that you consent to taking part in this survey.
