What is the research about?

We are 3rd year psychology students conducting this study as part of our 3rd year project under the supervision of Dr Anne McBride. This study aims to investigate various factors that may influence peoples’ attitudes to animals.

Why have I been chosen?

You have been chosen to take part in this study because you have seen it advertised by poster or via Psychobook. You should be at least 18 years old.

What will happen to me if I take part?

This study will take no longer than 30 minutes to complete and consists of 7 questionnaires. These questionnaires will ask you to read each item carefully and rate your response as honestly as possible. There are no right or wrong answers.

Are there any benefits in my taking part?

By taking part you will contribute to the knowledge of attitudes towards animals and if you are a psychology undergraduate at the University of Southampton you will receive 2 credits for your participation.  After completion the study, if you wish you will be entered in a prize draw, where you have the opportunity to win £20.  You will be contacted by email if you win.

Are there any risks involved?

There are no risks involved in taking part in this study. However, it is not uncommon to experience some anxieties or concerns when completing questionnaires and support is available. If participating in this study raises any issues for you, we recommend that you contact one of the following resources: your GP or the University Counselling Service: counser@soton.ac.uk or telephone 023 8059 3719

Will my participation be confidential?

Yes, your participation in this survey will be completely confidential. Each participant will be given a non-identifying code and your name or any other identifying data will not be collected anywhere in this data. At the end of the survey psychology students will be asked for their student ID number, however this is just for credit allocation and will not be linked with your data.

What happens if I change my mind?

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary and you have the right to withdraw from the study at any time if you wish, by simply closing the web page. You will not be penalised for doing so.

What happens if something goes wrong?
