Changes to iSurvey coming in December

iSurvey will see a number of small changes in the next week. There are as follows:

a) The ‘Preview’ function will no longer save data.

This allows you to view your survey without worrying about adding redundant data. This also allows academic staff  to preview their student module evaluation questionnaires, whereas previously they couldn’t.

Please note you can still test your survey saves data in the format you require by simply taking the survey in the usual manner i.e. www.isurvey.soton.ac.uk/SURVEYID

b) Individual participant data page layout improved

There were a number of layout issues and bugs on the ‘view participant data’ page. This has had a revamp and hopefully looks a lot better.

c) eFolio created module evaluation changes

There are several changes to surveys that have been created from WITHIN eFolio for student module evaluation questionaires. These are as follows:

1. eFolio module evaluations are now grouped together in a folder at the of your survey list.

This differentiates these from ‘research’ questionnaires and should make it easier to manage. You also get a response rate preview on this page.

2. eFolio module evaluations no longer see ‘Invitation lists’ and ‘Distribute’ pages

This prevents any confusion in how the survey can be taken i.e. if  survey is created via the eFolio admin panel, it can *only* be taken by students using the correct link from within eFolio. The ‘direct’ link to the survey has also been disabled, again to prevent confusion over how this data should be collected. The ‘Student list’ menu item has been moved to the ‘Collect’ menu group.

3. eFolio module evaluations can no longer delete participant data

This prevent staff from accidentally (or on purpose!) deleting student response data. Theoretically, the only participant data from these questionnaire are real student data, and therefore should be tamper proof.

4. eFolio Module evaluations can no longer delete participant data ‘turn off’ surveys

The ‘on / off’ option from within the survey settings has been disabled, preventing student confusino from attempting to take a questionnaire, only to find it has been switched off

All of these changes to eFolio Module Evalsations have been created to make the interface easier to use and less confusing for both staff and students. If you have any questions or comments about these changes please let me know  ASAP.

d) Ranking question type consultation

Finally, I am currently in the process of creating a much requested ‘Ranking’ question, allowing participants to rank options from 1 to ‘x’. There are a number of ways this can be done and I will be looking to the iSurvey community to pick the best option. Expect to receive an email shortly.
